Design To Roam helps you find the right people to live and work with abroad. We curate small groups based on your application, recommend regions and cities that fit your goals and budget, and help you align on a specific destination and property. We don't own or manage properties ourselves — we help you find and book great options (like Airbnbs/VRBOs) that fit your group.
No. We do not own, manage, or directly market any properties. We recommend areas, cities, and specific listings that are a good fit for your group, but the stays themselves are through third‑party platforms (e.g. Airbnb, VRBO) or hosts.
We do not make money by marking up properties or adding fees to your stay. Our revenue comes from a monthly subscription that you pay to be matched into a group and supported through the planning, coordination, and booking process.
When we talk about "monthly budget," we mean accommodation + food only. This does not include flights, activities, or extra luxury expenses. Those will vary a lot by person, so we focus on making sure your core cost of living with the group fits what you're comfortable spending.
By default, we handle the booking on your group's behalf. Once your group picks a property and confirms dates, each person pays their share through our platform, and we then book the stay for the group. This way, no one has to put the entire trip on their personal card or chase others for reimbursements. If you're joining with a group you already know and prefer to handle booking yourselves, you're welcome to do that instead.
Filling out an application is free. Your subscription only starts after you've been approved and matched into a group. Once you're matched, we'll prompt you to start your subscription so you can access your cohort, next steps, and support.

If we find a fit, we'll notify you, share details about the potential cohort, and outline next steps. 4. Once you're matched and start your subscription, we work with your group to pick a destination, shortlist properties, and move toward booking. While you're waiting, we'll also send you a follow‑up email with a few destination ideas that fit your preferences so you get immediate value from applying.
We're still finalizing our exact cancellation policy. The goal is to protect both you and the rest of your group: you'll have a window where you can cancel and receive a full or partial refund, and as the trip gets closer, refunds become more limited. We'll share the full details clearly before you commit to any booking or payments.
